About us:

In Memory of our wonderful Anatolian Shepherd  "Gant's Dante Zeus" aka Deacon(upper left), who passed away in 2005.  He started us on our journey with this wonderful breed and is greatly missed.

BATTLES FARMS

(FORMERLY SOUTHEAST BREEDERS)

We are Aubrey and Cynthia Battles and are located in southeast Alabama. We farm about 50 acres with about 25 acres of this dedicated to raising goats and cattle. We started with just a few Nubians in 1995, but later bought Boer goats, crossbred, registered full-blood and percentages and increased in size over the next few years. Just a hobby, I guess. We lost several bred nannies and kids in 1998 to a pack of domestic dogs getting into our pen. Needless to say, we had to have some predator protection. We then acquired a pair of Great Pyrenees to guard them and solved our predator problem.  A friend that we farmed with had told us of some Anatolian Shepherds he had seen while he was in Turkey in the 1950’s. We really became interested in this breed and did some research. This dog is a rare breed in the U. S. so it was a long search to find some close enough to travel and see this dog to decide if this was a dog for us.  We went to Mississippi to see some Anatolians. It was love at first site for Aubrey, but I took a little convincing. Today I am very glad that we decided to get them. We acquired or first male in 1999 and proceeded to look for a mate. Even though it took several years to find her, it was worth the time. We have added more breeding stock now. We have had Great Pyrenees in the past, but for us the Anatolian seems to do better in the southern heat. We like the personality and coat better for our needs.

We have shipped our Anatolian Shepherd puppies worldwide and they are being used as family and/or livestock guardians. We have placed some of our dogs in Canada, the Philippine islands, Santiago Chile and all over the U.S. We prefer to ship when a small puppy but can arrange for transport of large dogs also, weather permitting.

Over the last couple of years we also acquired Teddy Roosevelt terriers (type B rat terrier, short-legged) and this is definitely the other end of the spectrum as far as dogs go. Our large guardians and mighty mites are great for our rural area needs. In this process we have learned a lot and met many, many wonderful people who have some of the same needs and concerns as we do for their family and farms. We hope that you will contact us. if you have any questions we can help you with. Take a look around and see how you like our animals.
Please, always research the breed you are interested in and make sure you are committed to the animal. Links to informative websites on testimonial page.
